PR is a powerful yet inexpensive tool for generating popular and political support through media relations, campaigns, events, printed and online materials. It can boost your profile, demonstrate your achievements, reward supporters such as volunteers and funders with public recognition, influence prospects to donate and persuade decision-makers to make a difference to the landscape in which you’re operating.
But raising awareness on its own is not enough. It has to be accompanied by understanding, shifting perceptions and action - and that needs planning!
This one day course has been created specifically for voluntary groups, not-for-profit organisations, charities and community-based initiatives that:
- Want to generate more support from donors, supporters, decision-makers and funders
- have limited resources to meet their targets
This course will give you a thorough introduction to the skills needed to run an effective PR programme. You will learn about tools for: effective communications planning, media relations and copywriting. It will be a practical and interactive introduction, looking at real examples.
- How to write a short yet effective campaign which keeps you on track and makes sure you don’t end up with a cardboard box full of useless leaflets under your desk!
- Get clear about which audiences you want to reach, how you’re going to reach them, what you’re going to tell them and most importantly, what you want them to do.
- Carefully planned and targeted PR can build a vital profile for your charity. We will cover how to craft a media story and come up with ideas to catch the eye of journalists, target the right media to reach your prospects, write a great press release, sell-in your story on the phone, use pictures and top tips for doing radio and TV interviews.
Copywriting – using words that get results
- An important part of the PR mix that is often overlooked. So much material, be it direct mail, websites, leaflets etc. is ruined by dire copy. Your commitment and passion for your subject is not enough to excite your reader. You’ll discover proven tips for taking copy from deadly dull to highly motivating.
